Some bags are more than bags — they’re sidekicks, riding with us for many miles.
Recently a longtime customer brought in a well-loved Gladstone Grocery Pannier that had finally reached the end of its usable life… at least in its original form. Instead of letting it go to a landfill, they asked if I could build them a new bag using pieces of the old one so the story (and sentiment) could live on.
Salvage → Rebirth
The original bag was itself an upcycling project. It was from a run of panniers that we had made using upcycled banner vinyl. The original project reduced the amount of raw materials that we used for the bag, and gave new life to the banner material. When the bag came back to us, it was clear that it had seen years of wear from commuting, errands and travel. The vinyl was cracked, but it still had its soul.
Instead of discarding it, I carefully deconstructed it — panel by panel — and hand-selected the pieces that carried the most character. Those materials were then sewn into a brand-new Grocery Pannier as intentional embellishments and focal accents.
What the customer got wasn’t just “a replacement”… they got a continuation.
Before & After

The Repair / Reuse Ethos
Our repair program exists for exactly this reason: gear should have a long life — sometimes across multiple generations of bags.
Whether it’s:
-
A strap that needs to be replaced
-
A liner that needs reinforcement
-
Or a legacy panel you want to carry forward
We’re here for it. If you have an old beloved bag that you would like salvaged and reborn into a new beloved sidekick, reach out and we can make it happen!
Why We Go This Far
This type of repair isn’t “efficient” the way mass-manufacturing is. It’s slower, more hands-on, and deeply personal.
But for us, that’s the point: Customization isn’t an upsell — it’s a relationship.
We build bags meant to travel with you for years, and when a beloved one reaches its limit, we don’t throw away the story. We help it evolve.
Want to Start a Repair or Salvage Build?
If you’ve got a bag with history we’re happy to take a look. Sometimes a repair is a tune-up, and sometimes it’s a full “rebirth” like this one. Either way, we’re proud to make things worth fixing.
